Possessing an extensive background in public administration, Mary Lynne Calkins most recently served as Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) counsel. She was part of an inter-agency working group that engaged with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) in formulating new regulations in compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2020. In the wake of the 2008-09 financial crisis, Mary Lynne Calkins worked with the FDIC’s Professional Liability & Financial Crimes Section in claims investigations related to failed financial institutions and potential mortgage fraud and executive liability issues.
Ms. Calkins’ experience includes a past role as senior counsel at the Export-Import Bank of the United States’ Litigation, Fraud & Compliance Group. She worked to protect the bank's interests in complex transactions that boosted US exports products and bolstered the domestic economy. Her due diligence extended to ensuring export credit transaction compliance with export controls, as well as sanctions and anti-fraud laws.
Ms. Calkins is proficient in Chinese and was professor of English at the People’s University of China in Beijing in the early 1990s. During her tenure, she taught conversation and English literature to students majoring in international finance and economics. She next served as executive manager with Reed Sino-Asia, where she interpreted for the British CEO while liaising with Chinese government officials on a proposed joint venture, as well as hiring, managing, and training Western and Chinese staff.
